NEED TO KNOW

Breaking News - Jaspersoft Announces Jaspersoft Business Intelligence Suite v3 Professional Edition

Marking what the company calls a major milestone for open source business intelligence (BI) software, Jaspersoft Corp. today announced the availability of its new Jaspersoft Business Intelligence Suite v3 Professional Edition. “This release does take us to the enterprise-class level. That was one of the main focus areas for the release,” Ian Fyfe, senior director of product management, JasperSoft, told 5 Minute Briefing.

The new release features an interactive Web 2.0 interface based on technologies that offer the ability to mashup BI features to provide a seamless, cross-application experience. Jaspersoft v3 is intended to make it easy for anyone to build and update dashboards in real-time, drag and drop information from multiple locations, and build queries and reports with the click of a mouse.

In addition to the browser-based interface built on AJAX, Dynamic HTML and other Web 2.0 technologies that provides drag-and-drop functionality for non-technical business users, the new release offers an an ad-hoc dashboard builder that uses Web 2.0 technology to create “twinkling” or self-refreshing key performance indicator gauges to be read at a glance and updated in near real-time.

There is also a new data source abstraction layer “Domain” and query generation engine, which provides managed point and click ad hoc data access to business users “without needing any technical skills or understanding of technology,” said Fyfe. Other features include a Web-based domain designer for IT personnel and administrators; an enhanced repository manager that delivers improved ease-of-use for business users and administrators; and data source independence that enables access to relational, non-relational, and custom data sources.

“We have also enhanced security and internationalization with this release which is again focused on enterprise requirements,” said Fyfe.

Jaspersoft v3 can be embedded into any Web application. “We have always focused on being designed for integration, for people who want to embed Jaspersoft into other applications, either within the enterprise or for software vendors who want to embed it into their own applications,” said Fyfe. “We continue to extend that - for example, adding support for Flash-based applications.”

Pervasive Software Unveils Pervasive PSQL Summit v10.10 Database

Pervasive, a leader in embeddable data management and agile integration software, has announced the general availability of Pervasive PSQL Summit version 10.10.  New features in this update are 32- and 64-bit support of Windows and Linux platforms, including platform certification for Windows Server 2008 and support for Windows Vista SP1.

Because the product is used by ISVs who embed it as a database in their own software products to market to small and medium companies, Gilbert Van Cutsem, general manager of Database Products at Pervasive, told 5 Minute Briefing, it is critical that Pervasive stays up to date with the latest trends its ISV customers are following. “We do not want to be a hindrance in any way, shape or form for our ISVs to go to their end-users,” said Cutsem. “We want to be ready when the market is.”

And particularly with certification for Windows Server 2008 and support for Windows Vista SP1, said Cutsem noted, “We understood that this was important for our community. ISVs want to make sure that whenever they have an application, that it follows the trends - and Microsoft is a trend-setter.” Moreover, he noted, “Whatever we do, we have to be compatible with the past, and future-proof.”

Pervasive PSQL Summit v. 1.0.10 offers Linux support including Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise and Ubuntu platforms (32- and 64-bit) with added Heartbeat Linux High Availability clustering support. There is also internationalization and localization including new Japanese support; and new security solutions across three product lines, including Pervasive AuditMaster, Pervasive Backup Agent and Pervasive DataExchange to provide compliance support and auditing, backup reliability, and replication. Informatica Launches Informatica 8.6

Informatica Corp. has introduced a new release of its data integration platform, Informatica 8.6. “We are positioning it as the first comprehensive, unified and open platform for data integration,” Chris Boorman, CMO, Informatica, told 5 Minute Briefing. The new release delivers additional capabilities including real-time data integration, on-demand integration as a service, cross-enterprise data exchange and proactive data quality, Boorman said.

“The key thing about this is that it provides organizations with the ability to access, to integrate and to trust their data across the entire enterprise - whether it be the traditional enterprise within the firewalled world, or linking into the cloud computing world of on-demand computing, or information flowing down through supply chains and between partners - and ensuring that there is data quality across the environment,” said Boorman.

Informatica 8.6 includes the new PowerCenter Real Time Edition. With features such as streaming changed data capture, PowerCenter 8.6 supports the data integration latency or timeliness requirements from batch to real-time, allowing organizations “to choose the speed or the latency that they wish to provide in terms of data integration,” Boorman said.

Additionally, with this release, Informatica provides its third software as a service offering for cloud computing-based data integration. The new Data Loader service allows business users to integrate their off-premise data managed by salesforce.com with their on-premise data.

In the new B2B Data Exchange category there are two products, B2B Data Transformation, and B2B Data Exchange. B2B Transformation offers support for unstructured data, such as Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as semi-structured industry-specific standards like SWIFT for financial services and HIPAA for healthcare. B2B Data Exchange automates data exchange between organizations with orchestration and partner management facilities.

Finally, the new release offers “proactive data quality,” preventing problems from occurring at the point of entry. Identity resolution technology, resulting from the recent acquisition of Identity Systems from Nokia, said Boorman, enables search, match and resolution of identification data accross multiple systems and more than 60 languages. Tizor and Intellitactics Team Up to Deal with Data Theft and Compliance Issues; Tizor Announces Mantra 6

Tizor Systems, a provider of enterprise database monitoring and protection solutions, and Intellitactics, a provider of appliances and software for enterprise security information and event management, have formed a technology alliance to address the market need for integrated enterprise-class solutions that can address major data security challenges such as core-database breach detection, insider threats, data outsourcing risk, and data compliance auditing and reporting.

Tizor Systems, today also announced a new version of its database monitoring and auditing solution, Mantra. Mantra 6 offers improved features for data discovery, database security and ease of use. Key features include automated discovery for finding databases and specific classes of sensitive data; session termination for blocking unauthorized or suspicious database activity; and drag and drop policy creation for the easier implementation of data auditing for risk mitigation.

The alliance with Intellitactics “is driven by pure market need - the fact that our joint customers are asking us for this tighter type of integration and see the value-add of joining the two products together. It is much deeper than just a generic technology alliance,” Doug Mazlish, vice president for business development, Tizor, told 5 Minute Briefing. The partnership includes solution integration as well as joint selling, marketing, and customer service efforts.

The technology integration will provide automated security incident analysis, correlation, viewing, reporting and response across the enterprise.   Enterprises will now have the ability to analyze a broad range of security events while also viewing database activity on a granular level.

“By combining what Intellitactics has from an event and security information management perspective across the enterprise and what Tizor brings to the table with in-depth expertise in terms of what is going on in the database, we provide both the breadth as well as the depth of security events that are most plaguing large scale enterprises today,” said Mazlish.

Tizor’s Mantra is a product designed specifically for high performance database monitoring and auditing - capable of detecting anomalous user behavior across a large enterprise data center. “We are certain that demand will be very high in our customer base,” said Mike Cerick, vice president of strategic alliance, Intellitactics, speaking of the combined approach. “Our plans are not only to move them into the normal supported device list, which I believe is already accomplished,” he said, but “we are also going to go down a path of actively integrating their solution so they are really able to work in complete harmony,” said Cerick. “It will be a very unique differentiator in the marketplace.”

Mantra 6 will be generally available on July 30, 2008. For more on Tizor, go here. For more on Intellitactics, go here.
