Noetix Generator Achieves SAP-Certified Integration
with BusinessObjects XI Solutions
Noetix Corp., a software provider that automatically generates business
intelligence (BI) content from enterprise applications, announced
that its Noetix Generator version 1.1 for use with Business Objects
software has achieved SAP certified integration status as a third-party
extension/add-on for integration with the BusinessObjects XI R2
solutions.
The certification informs customers that “this solution is
approved by, validated by and supported by SAP and Business Objects,
as well as Noetix,” Daryl Orts, vice president of engineering
technologies, Noetix, told 5 Minute Briefing.
Noetix provides patented technology to automatically populate Business
Objects universes with NoetixViews for Oracle E-Business Suite,
and then exports the generated universes into the BusinessObjects
software environment, enabling report authors and query users to
immediately begin using their Business Objects reporting tool of
choice to develop reports and queries against configuration specific
views of their application data.
This certification includes a stringent set of requirements based
on a proven SAP methodology and will provide an added level of assurance
to customers that Noetix Generator is a tested, third-party solution
that interoperates with BusinessObjects software. “It will
increase our credibility and increase customer confidence that our
solution works as advertised and conforms with the SAP/Business
Objects standards for integration,” said Orts.

Talend Introduces Open Source Data Quality Product
Talend has announced Talend Data Quality, which combines data integration, data profiling and data quality in an open source suite. Talend Data Quality identifies nicknames, duplicated records and shortened street addresses and corrects them using reference data from providers such as the U.S. Postal Service, and also allows companies to distinguish hard-to-discern nicknames.
Talend is focusing on two primary uses of a data quality solution, Yves de Montcheuil, vice president of marketing, Talend, told 5 Minute Briefing. One is standalone data quality inside of database applications, such as a CRM application. The second use is for data quality in combination with data integration. “Viruses travel when people move and the very same thing goes for bad-quality data,” he said. “Because of that we are providing data quality as part of data integration as an add-on to data integration.”
Talend Data Quality provides snapshots and history of a company’s data quality so improvements or degradation of the data over time can be measured; data identification of poor-quality and good-quality data on a record-by-record basis; cleansing of incorrect, incomplete or inconsistent data by cross-checking against other databases and reference data; and enrichment of data with information such as latitude and longitude, census data, credit scores and other details that make it more valuable.
“By providing an open source data quality solution, we are going to make data quality available to companies of all sizes, for all their projects and we are going to democratize the use of data quality,” said de Montcheuil. “The other thing open source will do to data quality is make it a lot more open, let our customers customize the data quality solution.” Talend Data Quality will be available in September 2008 as a standalone product or as an added feature to Talend Integration Suite. Jitterbit Releases Jitterbit 2.0
Jitterbit, a provider of open source integration software, has released Jitterbit 2.0 with new features designed to increase the ease-of-use, scalability and performance of the Jitterbit product line. “Our focus as a company is to make integration as simple as possible,” Sharam Sasson, Jitterbit chairman an CEO, told 5 Minute Briefing.
Several new features are available in Jitterbit 2.0, including an advanced user interface and integrated server enhancements, such as independent scripting, synchronous/asynchronous operations, and parallel chunking. “Our customers are increasingly using our product in EAI, in SOA, and the advent of software as a service has created additional opportunities for us,” Sasson said. The new features are intended to enable users to maximize hardware utilization and increase scalability and performance.
“People initially started to use Jitterbit for simple point
to point integrations,” Ilan Sehayek, CTO of Jitterbit, said.
“However, over the course of the last 18 months or so, these
projects have grown in complexity from point to point, to full-blown
business process intregations.” The prior interface in Jitterbit
1.3 was “cumbersome in terms of letting you design, manage
and maintain a complete business process because you navigated everything
in a treelike structure.” Now, he said, users navigate in
a visual flow-like interface. “That is one major part of Jitterbit
2.0 - enabling complex business processes to be defined and to be
maintained and to be tested from an interface that flows more easily
and intutitively.”
Another key area of improvement for Jitterbit is in the ability to process large data sets through parallel processing, said Sehayek. Multi-threaded server technology gives users the ability to process multiple chunks of records concurrently and reduce processing time exponentially. Additionally, noted Sehayek, with Jitterbit 2.0, “any integration that you have done and it can be a whole integration process - can be exposed as Web service using what we call 'rapid fire Web services.'” For details about the release are available at the Jitterbit Web site.

IIUG Plans Second Annual International Informix Users Group Conference
IIUG (International Informix Users Group), an organization of volunteers dedicated to the Informix community, is planning its second annual conference. The first conference held in the spring of 2008 was the largest single gathering of Informix sessions and vendors under one roof since IBM's purchase of it, according to the group. "This event is a can't-miss for anybody using Informix today. No other event in the world offers this much Informix content, access to Informix experts, and demos on the latest developments and innovations with Informix technology," Stuart Litel, IIUG president, said.
The 2009 conference will take place in the same location, at the Overland Park Marriott, from April 26-29. The Sunday kickoff will feature up to 10 tutorials for participants to choose from, and the three-day agenda will offer over 60 technical sessions from top expert users, as well as IBM Informix experts.
Conference registration will open in November with a special early-bird price for IIUG members of $499. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. The group expects a complete and early sellout of both attendee and sponsor space, as occurred last year. "We saw a rush of sign-ups for the 2008 conference. I think users realize that the amount of Informix content and access to experts that we offer for such a low price is unbeatable," said Cindy Lichtenauer, IIUG board member and lead conference planner. Details about the conference and registration information can be found here.

Tripwire Announces Oracle Database 10g Policy Support to Maximize System Performance
Tripwire, a provider of configuration assessment and change auditing solutions and member of the Oracle PartnerNetwork, has announced a new configuration assessment policy that helps ensure Oracle Database 10g deployments meet best-practice guidelines for performance and availability.
Tripwire Enterprise’s Oracle Database 10g Operational Policy includes tests that assess the strength of the Oracle Database management system, gauging both database availability and performance. The policy builds on Tripwire Enterprise’s configuration assessment capabilities, which assist users running Oracle Database on Windows and Solaris systems, helping to ensure a compliant state.
Tripwire worked with Oracle’s Professional Services team to understand what settings were important and what some of the common ranges were for customers, Dwayne Melancon, vice president of corporate development, Tripwire, told 5 Minute Briefing, because while there is variability in the customer base, they had found that certain settings for performance or efficiency are fairly consistent across the board. “We built some policies that tie directly into some of their recommendations for how things should be configured.”
In cases where there is too much variability across the customer base for what a good value is, said Melancon, “we at least have captured what the right settings are to monitor either for availability or performance, and we then allow people to take a live piece of infrastructure, point one of our policies at it, and use their current values as a starting point for a configuration policy.” With that, they can track configuration changes from there, and compare new Oracle infrastructure to existing Oracle infrastructure to find out how it varies.
Tripwire continuously monitors an organization’s IT environment, automatically notifying staff when IT settings need to be reconfigured to meet internal and external policy requirements. For IT environments using Oracle Database 10g, Tripwire Enterprise runs multiple tests to enable the system to meet best practice guidelines and if necessary offers remediation steps that can be followed to put the system into its optimal state. In addition to providing support for Oracle’s operational policies, Tripwire automatically detects unauthorized, non-compliant change to enterprise-wide systems and virtual environments and immediately alerts IT staff so that exceptions to change and release management policies can be immediately updated and investigated.
