EMC to Resell Informatica ILM and MDM Products and Services
Posted May 18, 2010 - May 18, 2010 Issue Print Version     Page 1of 1

EMC Corporation and Informatica Corporation have announced that Informatica Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) and Master Data Management (MDM) solutions have been added to EMC Select. Under this agreement, EMC will resell Informatica ILM and MDM products and services, to further extend the value of EMC's intelligent tiered storage, archive and enterprise content management platforms.

In addition, as part of the agreement, there is broad support for joint marketing of the solutions as well as commitments on both sides for technical integration between various components of the EMC stack and the components of the Informatica stack that are involved in the resale agreement, Adam Wilson, senior vice president and general manager of the Application ILM business unit of Informatica, tells 5 Minute Briefing.

The combination of EMC information infrastructure solutions with Informatica ILM is intended to help customers manage the lifecycle of unstructured content and structured data to lower costs, optimize storage infrastructure and ensure long-term retention of information assets. In addition, Documentum xCP together with Informatica MDM will help customers further manage business processes while producing one record of truth about a customer, patient, product or any information asset to make better business decisions.

"What we are seeing is more of a convergence of what is happening in the worlds of structured data and unstructured data," states Wilson, providing context for the partnership. With this agreement, EMC, which has predominantly been focused on the management of documents and email and other unstructured content, and Informatica, which has been very focused on data that is typically stored in structured or semi structured format such as databases and applications, and legacy systems, are joining forces to provide "a better, more complete" solution to the market that allows customers to tackle problems through an integrated set of offerings.

"This is really a beachhead for a broader series of offerings that we may bring to market over time, but we felt that in particular, there was a ready market for archiving technology," says Wilson.
