IBM Eats its Own CloudFood
Posted May 17, 2010 - May 17, 2010 Issue Print Version     Page 1of 1

As mentioned in today's 5 Minute Briefing, IBM is moving forward in a big way to provide hybrid cloud computing resources to enterprise customers. But IBM itself is its own biggest cloud customer, Walter Falk, global leader and executive in charge of IBM SOA Infrastructure, tells 5 Minute Briefing. The IBM global organization has about 5,000 applications, many of which will be moved to an internal or hybrid cloud arrangement, he says. However, "not every workload is suited to cloud," he cautions. In many cases, IBM will be working with partners - such as SAP, which supports Big Blue's ERP and manufacturing operations - to determine if the cloud delivery model will work best. These are all lessons that will help IBM customers as well, Falk says. "IBM is in a state of transformation," he relates.
