Research@DBTA: The Emerging Role of Performance Management

Business intelligence and analytics help capture essential information and make it available to managers and executives, but this is only part of the solution. The information coming in from analytic systems needs to be tied to planning models to help decision makers understand whether their organizations are performing in line with expectations. This is where performance management comes in, writes Joe McKendrick in the June issue of Database Trends and Applications magazine.

To track the adoption of performance management, Unisphere Research, a division of Information Today, Inc., conducted a study for the Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG) in cooperation with IBM Cognos, a leading provider of performance management and business intelligence solutions. A total of 323 executives and managers participated in the survey, which was conducted earlier this year.
