Xen Becomes Linux Foundation Collaborative Project
The Xen Project - an open source virtualization platform licensed under the GPLv2 with a similar governance structure to the Linux kernel - is becoming a Linux Foundation Collaborative Project. Commenting on the support for Xen and how that relates to KVM, Linux Foundation Executive Director Jim Zemlin writes in a blog, "The open source model is predicated upon freedom of choice, so supporting a range of open source virtualization platforms and facilitating collaboration across open source communities is a priority for The Linux Foundation."

Key Areas of Strong Adoption Emerge for Open Source Hypervisor KVM
In a new blog, titled "KVM Goes to Work," Jean Staten Healy, Director, Worldwide Linux and Open Virtualization at IBM, looks at the key areas for KVM's growing strength in the enterprise: Over the past year, we have seen a marked shift in the conversation around KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine). Questions early on focused on whether the open source hypervisor could be trusted as an enterprise-grade virtualization solution. We think that question has been answered with a resounding "Yes, KVM is ready for business!" Most recently, we demonstrated with a first-ever virtualized x86 TPC-C benchmark result that even the most demanding and complex workloads can be virtualized - with KVM.

Is it Time for KVM to be Given a Fair Shake?
In a new post on the CloudPro website, Ian Murphy poses the question of whether it is time for KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) "to be given a fair shake." The open source hypervisor, which is available as part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SUSE Linux Enterprise and Canonical Ubuntu, has become a competitor to established products, including VMware's vSphere, Microsoft's Hyper-V and Citrix's Xen, Murphy observes.
