To the Cloud and Back: Processing Data in the Cloud for On-Premises Analytics
Tuesday, October 2, 12:00p.m. - 1:00p.m. Central

Organizations are adopting the cloud for a variety of reasons that span from cost savings, accessibility and more. While the cloud often provides favorable reasons for storing and managing data, there are often times when storing data from the cloud to the on-premises (on-prem) environments is favorable.

In this webinar, your hosts--data integration experts--Mark Van de Wiel and Joe deBuzna, will discuss scenarios in which their customers require that their data to be processed in the cloud but then integrated back to their on-prem environment. Your hosts will talk about the challenges and considerations in architecting a solution that enables these requests.

To illustrate how this scenario can be achieved, Mark and Joe will show a demo of an on-prem Oracle Database to Oracle RDS back to on-prem Oracle for real-time analytics. Through the demo, they will show how you can secure your setup, reduce latency and ensure data correctness within a single setup.

What you will learn:
  • Why organizations are selecting a hybrid approach to data processing
  • Benefits of a hybrid cloud approach
  • Considerations for architecting a hybrid cloud approach
Speakers: Mark Van de Wiel, CTO, HVR; Joe de Buzna, VP of Field Engineering at HVR

Winning Performance Challenges in Oracle Standard Editions
Thursday, October, 4, 12:00p.m. - 1:00p.m. Central

Oracle Diagnostics and Tuning packs offer comprehensive valuable performance diagnostics and tuning features such as : AWR, ADDM, ASH, ASH Analytics, etc. These optional packs can be licensed only on top of the Oracle Enterprise Edition. Without these packs, diagnosing performance issues may become a very complex task – even for advanced DBAs. In this session we will explore how you could leverage Oracle’s Statspack report and dictionary views to diagnose performance issues even without using any expensive editions and packs. In addition we will see how Quest tools can help DBAs to diagnose and solve even the most complex performance issues without relying on the Diagnostics and Tuning packs and for all the Oracle Database editions.

Speaker: Pini Dibask, Product Manager, Database Performance Monitoring, Quest

Server-Side Development for the Cloud: When TUNING means MONEY!
Tuesday, October, 9, 12:00p.m. - 1:00p.m. Central

When you transition from on-site development to development in the cloud, your system undergoes some significant shifts.

Hardware resources are no longer static.
Expense model is flexible (up to even “pay-per-use”)
Previously, as long as your current servers were surviving the workload, it did not matter whether they were 50% or 70% utilized. Now, this difference can be immediately converted to real money because the resource elasticity means that you can give it back (remember, elasticity works both ways!). Considering that the database licensing cost is $47,500 per CPU for the Oracle Enterprise Edition, proper tuning of your system could save enough money to become noticeable to management.

Recently, the author encountered a number of real-world situations where the CPU footprint was successfully decreased after adjusting SQL and PL/SQL routines. This webinar will discuss some of the resulting best practices in research and coding techniques.

This webinar will demonstrate why server-side developers are mission-critical in 21st century IT departments since it’s all about money. Isn’t it?

Speaker: Michael Rosenblum, Software Architect/Development DBA, Dulcian Inc.
