Application Security, Inc. Offers Free 1-Year License of Database Security Software

To help organizations defend against threat of data breaches, Application Security, Inc. (AppSecInc), a provider of enterprise database security solutions, plans to give away up to $1 million of  its database security software.

Companies that choose to take advantage of the offer will receive a free 1-year license of AppSecInc's database security scanning and assessment tool, AppDetectivePro, which helps companies discover and identify known and unknown databases on their network, scans for vulnerabilities and misconfigurations, investigate database access control violations, and provides knowledge for remediation. According to AppSecInc, a 1-year license of AppDetectivePro retails for $2,000 per database instance.

Underscoring the importance of safeguards against database vulnerabilities, AppSecInc points to Verizon's 2012 Data Breach Investigations Report, which shows that 96% of all compromised records came from databases, and that 97% of breaches were avoidable through simple or intermediate controls.

While there is "a very real and very serious data security problem," according to Thom VanHorn, vice president of Global Marketing, AppSecInc, there is also "light at the end of the tunnel. Be it hacktivists, cyber criminals or malicious insiders, they all have one thing in common - they tend to prey on basic weaknesses and take the path of least resistance."
