Attunity Launches PowerPivot Connector for Oracle

Attunity Ltd., a provider of real-time data integration and event capture software, has introduced the new Attunity PowerPivot Connector for Oracle, a dedicated and optimized solution for making Oracle data available in Microsoft PowerPivot. Attunity also announced the availability of additional certified connectors that enable PowerPivot users to access data from many heterogeneous sources.

PowerPivot as "arguably the most popular" technology in SQL Server 2008 R2, Itamar Ankorion, Attunity's director of marketing and business development, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "It is technology, which many believe will change the game in the BI market," he adds. "The whole idea of PowerPivot is to empower business users to do BI themselves basically inside Excel."

And, in order to leverage PowerPivot's ability to handle millions of rows of data from a variety of sources, users will need "a highly scalable, fast, and very complete type of connector" to common data sources such as Oracle, notes Ankorion. According to Attunity, its PowerPivot Connector for Oracle delivers affordable and optimized software for loading large volumes of Oracle data into PowerPivot. Designed for PowerPivot, the connector offers a simplified and integrated user experience as well as specific performance optimizations, which, Attunity says, have been proven in lab benchmarks to perform even 50% faster than other common connectors, all in a self-contained installation with minimal dependency on additional client software components.

Going forward, the connector will be part of the Attunity PowerConnector Series, which also includes the Attunity high-speed connectors for Oracle and Teradata that Microsoft chose to include with SQL Server 2008 Integration Services (SSIS). Additionally, Attunity, which has provided a suite of database connectors for many years through its Attunity Connect product line, has certified its OLEDB-based connectors to ensure their seamless support for PowerPivot. Using these connectors, mid-sized and large companies can now access data across a range of data sources, relational and non-relational, on platforms including Microsoft Windows, UNIX, OpenVMS, HP NonStop, IBM iSeries, and IBM mainframe.
