Micro Focus Offers Software Lifecycle Self-Assessment Tool

Micro Focus, a provider of enterprise application modernization solutions, announced the launch of its Online Application Value Profile (AVP), a self-assessment tool which helps software organizations begin the process of making strategic and continuous improvements to the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

According to Micro Focus, as pressures mount on organizations to increase productivity and understand potential return on investment for a project, software development teams are caught between pressures to produce more software, increase quality and meet rigid schedules, while controlling or even reducing costs.

"Organizations are all challenged with driving competitive differentiation leveraging IT in new ways. Everyone struggles with how to be more agile and responsive to changing market dynamics," Pete DuPré, chief solutions architect at Micro Focus, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "The online Lite AVP provides quick visibility into the maturity of fundamental SDLC disciplines which drive business agility, productivity and business alignment."

The online AVP uses a set of targeted questions to evaluate three key IT disciplines of an organization - requirements, change processes, and quality - against industry trends. Immediately after completing the online profile, profile, the user will receive an email with a PDF report attached, says DuPré. The report details peer comparisons around technology maturity, a profile of critical performance indicators, and recommendations for next steps to help continue the application value path. An organization will see how they stack up to others in terms of business agility, says DuPré. "The AVP allows them to focus evaluation of optimization opportunities (i.e., process improvement, new methodologies, automation) toward the areas that align best with their most critical business issues."

Based on the evaluation, users can then receive recommendations from Micro Focus on initial steps for improving agility, productivity and alignment between disparate lines of business and IT - moving beyond the standard improvement road map to provide a quantitative business value profile and the basis for developing the potential ROI associated with development and testing processes and technology improvement opportunities.
