Quest Software Releases Sybase Version of Toad DB Management Tool

Quest Software, Inc. expanded its Toad product portfolio with the addition of free and commercial versions of Toad for Sybase. The new suite adds Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ and SQL Anywhere to Toad's list of supported relational and non-relational database platforms. Toad is a cross-platform database management toolset.

Prior to the release, Toad support for Sybase had been possible, but in a round-about way, Claudia Fernandez, director of product management, Toad solutions for Quest, tells 5 Minute Briefing. "Quest has historically supported Sybase through a number of other products - such as Toad for Data Analysts and Spotlight - but there hasn't been a true Toad UI for Sybase development and administration until now."

Toad for Sybase enables users to be more proactive in automating maintenance, ensuring optimal performance, and mitigating the risk of change to the database. Toad automates routine tasks and greatly reduces the risks associated with database vulnerability, performance bottlenecks, upgrades and patches.

The new Toad release is intended to enable organizations running Sybase alongside other database platforms to now have the ability to standardize on a cross-platform toolset.

There have already been more than 15,000 downloads of the Toad for Sybase beta, which has many of the same features as Toad's other database products, says Fernandez. "Toad for Sybase is built on the same technology as our Toad for SQL Server and Toad for DB2 products," she says. "But it also offers popular functionality from Toad for Oracle, such as the session browser. Additional popular features from other Toad products, such as schema compare and sync, will be available in later versions, beginning with version 1.1 which is expected to be available later this year."

A full-featured version of Toad for Sybase with Sybase ASE support is now available for free to the Sybase community at http://toadworld.com/Freeware/ToadforSybaseFreeware/tabid/814/Default.aspx. Additional information is available at the Quest website at www.quest.com/toad-for-sybase.
