dbKoda Releases First Production Release its Open Source IDE for MongoDB

The dbKoda team has released dbKoda 1.0, the first production release of its open source integrated development environment (IDE) for MongoDB. dbKoda offers features for developing MongoDB applications and for managing and tuning MongoDB databases.

dbkoda is offered by Southbank Software.  Founded in late 2016 by Guy Harrison, an Oracle ACE and MongoDB-certified DBA with more than 20 years of experience in database design, development, administration, and optimization, the company’s mission is to create tools to support the next generation of database developers.

Key components of the 1.0 release include a new performance lab which shows a graphical real-time view of MongoDB server performance and allows users to drill into poorly performing commands.  The tool includes an index advisor to help users optimize these commands.

“We built dbKoda on the premise that next-generation open source databases needed open source tooling built on a modern application stack,” said Harrison who is CTO at dbKoda.  “dbKoda is built on a modern web framework and, like MongoDB, is licensed under the AGPL.”

Southbank is funded by Toba Capital, a VC firm founded by former Quest Software CEO Vinny Smith.  Smith and Harrison, who is also a partner at Toba Capital, previously worked together at Quest.
