Arista Networks, a data switch vendor, today announced the newest addition to its Arista 7000 family of data center switches, the Arista 7500 Series. Arista 7500 is designed to deliver increased throughput, and leverage performance, density, and deeper buffering to support data center virtualization and cloud computing.

Vision Solutions, a provider of high availability and disaster recovery solutions for IBM Power Systems users, says that the Heritage Building Society Limited, Queensland, an Australian financial services company, is using Vision's EchoStream and EchoCluster for AIX to eliminate extended unplanned downtime, reduce disaster recovery system failover timeframes and meet extremely high service level agreements.

SpringSource, a division of VMware, Inc. and provider of Java application management solutions, announced the acquisition by VMware of Rabbit Technologies, Ltd., an open source software company based in the United Kingdom. SpringSource will add the RabbitMQ open messaging system into its suite of technologies that are designed to reduce the complexity associated with development, deployment and management of enterprise applications. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Leading storage vendors have recently added support for Symantec's industry standard Thin Reclamation AP, Symantec announced. The Symantec Thin Reclamation API enables automated space reclamation for thin-provisioning storage arrays, and is now supported by Symantec partners Compellent, EMC, Fujitsu, HP and NetApp, in addition to previously announced support from 3PAR, Hitachi Data Systems and IBM.

Veryant, a provider of COBOL modernization tools, announced a new release of its isCOBOL Application Platform Suite (APS) for developing, deploying, and modernizing COBOL applications. This is the vendor's sixth product update in two years. isCOBOL's value proposition, the vendor says, is offering users the ability to continue programming in COBOL, and at the same time, modernize and deploy applications across multiple platforms in an open Java framework.

IBM announced the opening of a new $30 million manufacturing facility at its Poughkeepsie site to produce the next generation of System z mainframes and high-end Power Systems servers. The facility, built inside an existing structure, will produce IBM's next line of System z mainframe computers and high-end Power Systems servers.
