Along with InterCloud, a new hybrid cloud solution intended to facilitate more interoperable and highly secure public, private and hybrid clouds, Cisco is shipping a range of cloud management products that extend its cloud portfolio with new products and services.

Emulex Corporation, a provider of network management products has introduced the next generation of high performance Ethernet connectivity solutions for virtualized, enterprise and cloud data centers. The OneConnect OCe14000 family of 10Gb and 40Gb Ethernet Network Adapters and Converged Network Adapters, based on the Emulex Engine 100 series of I/O controllers, is optimized to meet the needs of enterprises, cloud providers and telcos.

IBM reported a difficult year for the 12-month period ended December 31, 2013. For the fourth quarter of the 2013 fiscal year, the company reported revenues of $27.7 billion, down 5% from the same time one year ago, and mainframe sales were weak during this time.

With the sale of its x86 server business to Lenovo, IBM intends to focus on system and software innovations that bring value to strategic areas of its business, such as cognitive computing, big data and cloud. This agreement follows recent announcements by IBM that it will invest more than $1 billion in the new IBM Watson Group, and $1.2 billion to expand its global cloud computing footprint to 40 data centers worldwide in 15 countries across five continents.

PHD Virtual Technologies, a Unitrends company, has introduced two new data protection products, PHD Virtual Backup 7 for Hyper-V and ReliableDR 3.3. The latest release of PHD Virtual Backup 7 represents the company's foray into the Microsoft market, while ReliableDR 3.3 is the latest version of the company's automated recovery solution for VMware environments with mission-critical applications.
