eCube Systems, a leading provider of tools and middleware products for enterprise systems, has announced that its NXTera High Performance RPC Middleware product now supports Ingres Database 9.2, a leading open source database that helps organizations develop and manage business critical applications at an affordable cost. Whether in grid, cloud or demanding computational and transactional environments, NXTera provides the performance required for high-speed distributed computing, according to the vendor. NXTera is employed to link independent application logic running on multiple computing platforms over high speed networks, while enabling interaction with reliable and fast transactional databases.

IBM has announced version 9.7 of DB2 and InfoSphere Warehouse software, focused on transactional performance improvements in the DB2 database, and on expansion of analytics to XML data in the InfoSphere Data Warehouse. Both new products also reduce an even greater amount of space needed to store data, helping clients to gain significant savings on related costs including energy. This offering is also the industry's first database software that will deliver business analytics capabilities for both relational and XML data at the same time, according to IBM.

EnterpriseDB, an open source database vendor, announced that IBM has licensed its technology to make it easier to deploy applications on DB2 9.7, the upcoming release of IBM's enterprise relational database. The solution is intended to make it easier to migrate applications from Oracle environments into open source or DB2 environments.

Jaspersoft, provider of business intelligence (BI) software, and Infobright, the open source data warehouse company, have announced the general availability of what they describe as the first open source project to feature end-to-end BI, extract-transform-load (ETL), and data warehousing capabilities. The companies have also announced that Bi3 Solutions, provider of a virtual on-demand BI solution, has chosen the BI project to build an end-to-end BI suite.

Sentrigo, Inc., a provider of database security software, has announced that it has become the sole distributor of Repscan by Red-Database-Security, a 360-degree database vulnerability assessment and security scanning software available for Oracle databases. The product complements and integrates with Sentrigo's Hedgehog family of database activity monitoring software for protecting corporate databases from privileged insiders as well as malicious hackers. Repscan and Hedgehog products are available for download and free evaluation from the Sentrigo website. Repscan scans and reports on Oracle database weaknesses and vulnerabilities.

Sybase last week reported financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009. Total revenue for the first quarter of 2009 increased to $267.5 million from $260.1 million in the first quarter of 2008. License revenue grew to $89.3 million compared to $78.1 million in the first quarter of 2008. Services revenue was $135.0 million, and messaging revenue was $43.3 million in the 2009 first quarter.
