IBM today announced the acquisition of the assets of Exeros, a privately-held company based in Santa Clara, Calif., that provides data discovery software. Financial details were not disclosed. The acquisition, IBM says, will further strengthen its Information Agenda strategy to help companies turn data into a strategic asset, and provides new capabilities for its recently announced Business Analytics Optimization Consulting practice.

DataGuise, a provider of data security and privacy solutions for enterprises, has announced theDataGuise Know Your Data program. The Know Your Data program is intended to help organizations pinpoint the location of credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, addresses, salaries, and other sensitive content stored throughout the enterprise to secure it from unauthorized access. Vertica, a column-oriented analytic database technology provider, has announced a major new release of the Vertica Analytic Database with new performance, analytic and security features designed for robust analytic data management processes in modern data centers.
