Continuent, Inc., a provider of solutions for continuous data availability, advanced database replication, backup and database performance scalability, has introduced Continuent Tungsten 1.2.1 for MySQL and PostgreSQL. Continuent Tungsten offers an easy to manage, dynamic database replication solution with automatic failover, cluster management, high availability and scalability. "Early adopter customers have noticed the speed and enhanced usability provided by this new version," says Eero Teerikorpi, CEO of Continuent. "Continuent Tungsten enables our customers to reduce the cost, risk, and complexity of data availability and database performance."

Oracle has acquired Silver Creek Systems, Inc., a provider of product data quality solutions. Silver Creek's DataLens product data quality solution is designed to simplify complex product descriptions commonly found in many industries, enabling enterprises to more accurately manage product data. "Lack of standardized product data continues to be a challenge for many enterprises," says Hasan Rizvi, senior vice president, Oracle Fusion Middleware Product Development. "With the addition of Silver Creek, Oracle is extending its industry leading data integration offering with complementary solutions to enhance product data quality and help customers get more accurate and consistent product data for use across their enterprise."

To further enhance developer productivity and simplify Oracle Database development, Oracle announced the availability of Oracle SQL Developer Release 2.1, the latest release of the free database development and migration tool. Oracle SQL Developer Release 2.1 introduces two key capabilities—PL/SQL Unit Testing and Data Modeler Viewer — in addition to enhancements to the software overall.

Oracle has unveiled Demantra 7.3 versions for Demand Management, Advanced Forecasting and Demand Modeling, Real-Time Sales and Operations Planning and Predictive Trade Planning. The latest release offers an enhanced new product introduction capability that improves customers' ability to accurately forecast demand for items with little or no history, and provides better insight into product lifecycles, seasonal demand peaks and the impact of promotions.

Oracle Corporation announced fiscal 2010 Q2 results in the latter half of December and took the opportunity to mention that the company expects the European Commission to approve its acquisition of Sun this month. "We expect the European Commission to unconditionally clear the acquisition of Sun in January," noted Oracle president Safra Catz. "I want to thank all of our customers for the overwhelming support they have given us during this process."
