Oracle has announced the general availability of MySQL 5.5. The new release delivers enhancements enabling users to improve the performance and scalability of web applications across multiple operating environments, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, and Mac OS X.

Oracle has expanded its Sun Blade systems portfolio with new SPARC and x86 blade products and supporting integrated solutions. With this announcement, Oracle is targeting the enterprise, or private, cloud market and also highly virtualized data centers, says Dimitrios Dovas, director, product management for x86 servers, blades and networking, Oracle.

Oracle has announced the availability of Oracle Solaris 11 Express, which delivers advanced Oracle Solaris features that have been in development for over 5 years in a production-ready package. According to Oracle, new availability features reduce planned downtime by up to 50%, virtually eliminating traditional patching and maintenance related reboots and improving system boot time to tens of seconds. Oracle Solaris 11 Express also adds network virtualization and resource management to the built-in virtualization capabilities of Oracle Solaris.
