MicroStrategy Introduces Key Updates to its Platform

MicroStrategy is releasing a comprehensive update to its namesake platform, delivering new certifications to support more enterprise assets, allowing organizations to easily leverage their data investments.

MicroStrategy 10.5 delivers several features that make it easier to consume analytics across MicroStrategy Desktop, MicroStrategy Web, MicroStrategy Mobile, and Usher.

“The focus and theme around the launch of 10.5 is around improved and enhanced connectivity to enterprise assets and more enterprise assets,” said Vijay Anand, senior director of product marketing at MicroStrategy. “We delivered new connectors to new data sources, we’ve updated our connectors and certified our latest versions, and we enhanced the performance of some of these connectors as well.”

New enhancements include native support for RESTful APIs, connectivity to OData and SAS data files, and new certifications for more enterprise assets. Version 10.5 delivers native support for APIs that create entry points for accessing data in JSON format, addressing the needs of large enterprises and OEM partners that harness data through MicroStrategy via customized business apps. Additionally, the update introduces new connectors that allow end users to access new data sources. Analysts can upload and visualize SAS data files instantly, making it easier to share data and collaborate with other business users.

New certifications for data assets include support for Microsoft SQL Server 2016, MongoDB 3.2 and Cloudera 5.8. In addition, version 10.5 enhances access to big data sources by delivering updates to Spark SQL and Google Big Query connectors. Other new features for MicroStrategy Desktop and MicroStrategy Mobile in version 10.5 include improved visualizations and charts for MicroStrategy Mobile, customizable error messages on iOS mobile devices, and reduced memory footprint for MicroStrategy desktop.

End users who want to access OData and SAS files on their own without IT help and IT staff members who are looking to configure new data sources for faster performance will benefit the most from this along with partners who build custom applications, Anand said. In the future, MicroStrategy is looking to continue updating its connections to assets and enhancing the desktop product, Anand added. “I think a big focus will be to deliver improved usability and access to business and departmental users with the desktop product."
