EDITORIAL FAQ

Here are the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about contributing editorial material to Database Trends and Applications (DBTA) magazine and the 5 Minute Briefing e-newsletters.

Q. Does DBTA accept vendor-bylined articles?
A. Yes, we do. But the articles must be vendor-neutral and cannot focus on a specific product. They should either explore a significant trend or a solution to a specific problem faced by information management professionals.

Q. Do the 5 Minute Briefing newsletters accept bylined articles?
A. No, they don’t. Simply submit an appropriate press release.

Q. How long should articles for DBTA be?
A. A guest column is 650 words. Features should be between 800 and 1200 words.

Q. How quickly are feature articles published in DBTA?
A. Our commitment is to publish articles within four months of acceptance, either in the magazine or on our Web site.

Q. Who has rights to the article after it is published?
A. Upon acceptance, we will send you an agreement describing the rights. We retain the right to publish the article in all of our media.

Q. Do we republish articles that have appeared in other publications or the Web?
A. No. All material must be original.

Q. Do you pay for articles?
A. Alas, at this point, no.

Q. If I have an idea for an article, how should I start the process?
A. Send either an article pitch, abstract, or completed version of the article to Elliot King at Elliot@dbta.com and 410-356-3943, or Joyce Wells at Joyce@dbta.com and 973-665-9200. Or, submit your idea here.
