Dataguise Closes $13 Million Series B Financing to Expand Security for Big Data

Dataguise, a provider of data security intelligence and protection solutions, has secured $13 billion in Series B funding.

Dataguise raised money from a venture firm, Topa Capital, with additional capital from a leading electronic conglomerate. Dataguise said it plans to use the new funding to expand its global sales and marketing, increase partnerships with the current Hadoop leaders and increase revenue for the company. The company also plans to continue expanding its DgSecure suite of products that allow companies to have a view of their sensitive in big data repositories as well as traditional data management systems.

Vinny Smith, founder Toba Capital, and Paul Sallaberry, who has held senior operating roles at tech companies for nearly 30 years, have been appointed to the Dataguise board of directors.

Data security has been an important topic for many years but now with the era of big data, the volume, velocity and variety of this data bringing additional challenges to security officers. “The security philosophy is changing," Manmeet Singh, CEO, Dataguise, said in an interview. Dataguise has been taking a data-centric approach to enable compliance and protect the data and lead it from a Hadoop angle.

According to Dataguise, traditional approaches to securing Hadoop fail because they are too complex, expensive, and incapable of selectively protecting the data that matters in these large and diverse environments. Dataguise’s solution, DG for Hadoop, aims to provide an efficient and economical method of determining where and how to secure sensitive data in Hadoop. “Dataguise is the answer; we are helping people go from a sandbox environment to the production environment,” Singh explained.

Key features of DG for Hadoop, part of the DgSecure suite of products, include contextual-based data discovery, selective encryption, consistent masking for single or multiple Hadoop clusters, simplified management and new reports that compliance auditors can integrate in their overall analysis of compliance process and posture.
