The era of Big Data is driving considerable changes in how healthcare organizations manage and use the varied types of data they acquire and store. The legacy Relational Database Management System (RDBMS), Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and Storage Area Network (SAN) infrastructure used by institutions today to create siloed data environments is too rigid to accommodate the demands for massive storage and analyses on a larger and wider variety of data.
