The world of search and content analytics is going through a major transformation. In particular, today’s document management solutions are being integrated with Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to deliver what we call Intelligent Document Analysis (IDA). Aimed at providing end-users with solutions to help them improve internal operational efficiencies and enhance business processes, IDA uses Natural Language Processing (NLP), entity extraction,
semantic understanding and machine learning to analyze content and data to extract meaning and knowledge.
For example, organizations can use IDA to examine documents such as policies, contracts and legal agreements to identify specific terms and those that may pose a risk to the business. IDA can also be used to identify a kind of document (legal, finance, marketing, etc.) so that it can be categorized and routed to an appropriate department/person. Our typical IDA projects often utilize AI technologies to identify specific pieces of information
such as date, order number, or a policy number within documents that have been digitized. Core functionalities often include:
Optical Character Recognition (OCR)—used to convert different types of documents, such as scanned paper documents, PDF files or images into editable and searchable data
Text Analysis—analyze documents to identify specific language or terms and extract linguistic meaning
Deterministic Classification—a Pattern-Based Classifier can be used to look for sequences of terms which indicate a specific sort of document
Machine Learning—train a Machine Learning model with example data sets to predict document type or extract and classify text (e.g., learning an aircraft component name).
