IBM Announces New Smart Analytics and Transactional Systems

IBM has announced new systems highly-tuned and optimized to help clients more quickly draw insights from vast amounts of data so they can anticipate emerging business trends, capture new opportunities and avoid risks.

"We are looking to help our clients reduce costs and achieve better value faster. It is both of those pieces that make the notion of workload optimized systems compelling for our clients these days," states Bernie Spang, IBM's director of strategy and marketing for information management software. "IBM is doing the work to apply our expertise from the physics of the microprocessor up through the operating system and system software and middleware layers, across the servers and storage technologies, bringing that expertise to bear to define an optimal system and then deliver it with the software installed and configured for the right performance. This saves our clients the time, effort and cost of defining a system and acquiring all the pieces and putting it all together and tuning it themselves."

The new systems include the IBM Smart Analytics System 9600 with System z, and model 5600 with System x, as well as the IBM pureScale Application System with POWER7 technology.

The new IBM Smart Analytics System 9600 with System z, and model 5600 with System x, join the Power Systems based 7600 with integrated server, storage, software and services. Integrated Cognos and InfoSphere Warehouse software capabilities include reporting, analysis and dashboarding; ability to analyze multiple business variables to uncover unseen relationships; and ability to mine both structured data and unstructured information such as email, websites and blogs, to uncover hidden opportunities or provide customer behavioral analysis.

The IBM Smart Analytics System 9600 runs a mix of Linux and z./OS operating systems in partitions on the System z10. The model 5600 with System x also supports Linux.

Additionally, the new IBM pureScale Application System combines POWER7-based servers with WebSphere Application Server and DB2 pureScale software to handle heavy transactional workloads, such as smart utility grids.

The IBM Smart Analytics System 5600 (with System x) is immediately available. The IBM Smart Analytics System 9600 (with System z) and the IBM pureScale Application System will be available later this quarter. For more information on IBM workload optimized systems, go here.
