OpenStack 2014 Spring Survey Finds Users Favor Linux and KVM

The operating system most relied upon by OpenStack users is Linux from a variety of distributors, and the hypervisor in greatest use is KVM (Kernel-based Virtualization Machine), according to the OpenStack 2014 Spring User Survey. The survey was conducted during April 2014 to gather information and feedback from organizations using OpenStack for development/QA, proofs-of-concept, and in production.

“Our community very heavily favors open source software as a whole,” observed Wikimedia’s Ryan Lane, during a presentation of the survey results.  “It is very important that the open source portions of our software are rock-solid.”
