Panel Discussion at Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit Looks at Linux in Enterprise and Cloud Computing

The Linux Foundation, the non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of Linux, hosted a roundtable discussion on "What's Next For Linux in the Enterprise and the Cloud" at the 5th Annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit in San Francisco.

The Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit is an exclusive, invitation-only summit gathering core kernel developers, distribution maintainers, ISVs, end users, system vendors and other community organizations, and provides an opportunity to meet face-to-face to tackle and solve the most pressing issues facing Linux today.

The panel addressed the shifting trends in enterprise and cloud computing and the role Linux plays. The discussion was moderated by Jim Zemlin, executive director at The Linux Foundation. Representing IBM, a Premium Member of The Linux Foundation, was Jim Wasko, director of the IBM Linux Technology Center. The panel also included Chris Schlaeger, director, Operating System Research Center at AMD; Philip Sheu, CTO at Splashtop; and Sven Dummer, director of Linux engineering at Yahoo!.

At the conference The Linux Foundation also announced the formation of the High Availability (HA) Working Group, which it says will bring together projects and stakeholders to collaboratively define the open source HA software stack and prioritize features based on input from developers, vendors, and customers. This work will inform support for today's most sophisticated enterprises that are deploying Linux for mission-critical workloads.

The Linux Foundation is planning a variety of activities around the 20th anniversary of Linux which will officially be celebrated at LinuxCon in Vancouver August 17-19, 2011. Visit The Linux Foundation website for more information.
