Smart Business Development & Test on the IBM Cloud Goes Live

IBM has successfully leveraged its experience managing the world's largest computing environments to offer IBM Smart Business Development and Test on the IBM Cloud. This offering, which is now available in the U.S. and Canada, is specifically designed to meet the security and reliability needs of enterprise-class clients. The offering will be available in additional geographies later this year.

After thousands of hours of beta testing by engineers and developers, the IBM Cloud allows enterprise clients to quickly and easily accelerate internal development and test efforts. The cloud provides rapid access to resources through IBM's secure, scalable cloud delivery model, including IBM software and application lifecycle management tools from IBM Rational. This enterprise-friendly approach to cloud complements current data centers and traditional development efforts, allowing customers to choose the best mix of development environments to speed the delivery of new applications.

The average enterprise devotes up to 50% of its entire technology infrastructure to development and test, but typically up to 90% of it remains idle. Cloud computing provides a way for organizations to develop applications in a virtual environment, one in which computing capacity, bandwidth, and storage are not issues.

IBM has seen that taking advantage of cloud computing within development and testing environments can help reduce IT labor costs by 50%, improve quality and drastically reduce time to market. IBM's new Smart Business Development & Test on the IBM Cloud allows enterprise clients to expand on internal development and test efforts with access to resources through IBM's secure cloud delivery model, IBM software and application lifecycle management capabilities.

Support for Java and Linux are included with the Development and Test on the IBM Cloud, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and SUSE Linux Enterprise from Novell. The cloud is powered by Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, the Red Hat branded and supported KVM offering. Clients are free to work with their own images, as well as with images from IBM Mashup Center, Lotus Forms Turbo, WebSphere Portal Server, and Lotus Web Content Management. IBM Information Management and WebSphere brands can also be configured by clients to meet specific needs.
