Access Mainframe and Legacy Data for Analytics With Software AG

Organizations have invested millions in analytics and modern BI platforms that promise faster, smarter decisions. Yet for many organizations, the insights are incomplete pictures of their business because mainframe and legacy systems grounded in decades worth of valuable data are difficult for modern analytics tools to reach.

So, teams fall back on overnight extracts, brittle custom ETL, and duplicated data that's out of date the moment it lands.

DBTA’s latest webinar, Analytics Without the Wait: Live Access to Mainframe & Legacy Data, featured experts at Software AG who showcased how Software AG CONNX bridges this gap by exposing distributed sources as a single federated relational database through standard SQL.

Eric Wood, principal systems engineer at Software AG and Demos Economacos, senior systems engineer at Software AG, presented CONNX as the solution that unlocks the value in enterprise data. The platform offers a secure, standardized integration layer from mainframe to modern analytics.

Users can access: Query operational data through standard SQL; virtualize: Unify distributed sources as one logical view; and move: Synchronize or replicate data when needed.

CONNX provides standard SQL, accesses live data, and doesn’t require migration or rewrites. To the BI tool, legacy data looks and behaves like a modern relational source, Wood and Economacos said. Capabilities include:

  • Connect BI tools directly to operational data.
  • Preserve existing applications and investments.
  • Eliminate custom access code and disruptive rewrites

Federated analytics connects the data and completes the picture, noted Wood and Economacos. One query across multiple systems creates a more complete business view.

Hybrid modernization enables users to choose the right integration pattern for each workload, from mainframe to cloud.
