Armada Emerges from Stealth to Address the ‘Global Digital Divide’ in Intelligent Edge Computing

Armada, an edge computing pioneer redefining the future of connectivity, compute, and AI, has recently exited from stealth backed by over $55 million in funding. This funding—led by Founders Fund, Lux Capital, Shield Capital, and 8090 Industries, with participation from Felicis, Contrary, Valor Equity Partners, and other strategic investors—will aid Armada in achieving its company mission: bridging the global digital divide while empowering enterprises to use all of their data, wherever it’s generated, with the most advanced AI technology available today.

As Dan Wright, co-founder and CEO of Armada, emphasized “today, AI—including large language models, multimodal AI, and predictive models—is revolutionizing every facet of our lives and work, but not everyone has the same opportunity. What’s truly astounding is that vast swaths of the world still lack basic internet access, much less the ability to derive tangible value from their data.”

Radicalized by the increasing disparity between technological advancement and the access to it, Armada focuses on globally delivering a decentralized approach to data infrastructure.

Providing a full-stack infrastructure solution—deployable both on-prem and in the cloud—Armada offers the benefits of edge computing and advanced satellite internet connectivity to some of the most remote regions around the world.

“Armada’s mission is to bridge the digital divide once and for all, giving our customers the ability to solve their biggest problems,” Wright added.

Innovating in the area of edge computing, Armada offers four key solutions: the Armada Commander Platform, Armada Connect, Armada Edge, and Armada EdgeAI.

The Armada Commander Platform acts as the “cornerstone of Armada’s ecosystem,” according to the company, enabling enterprises to observe and manage all of their edge operations from a single portal. The Armada Commander Platform enables:

  • Starlink terminal purchase and control
  • Galleon data center deployment and management
  • IoT device centralization
  • Access to the Armada marketplace for next-gen AI apps

Armada Connect serves as the dedicated OS for Starlink and future IoT devices, bringing holistic control over an organization’s range of Starlink deployments, according to Armada. By combining enterprise-grade observability, management, and billing of all Starlink assets with the Commander AI Assistant for real-time, contextual alerts, Armada Connect eases both administration and troubleshooting.

With Armada Edge, customers can comprehensively control and oversee Galleons, connectivity, AI apps, and IoT assets. Galleons—Armada’s mobile, modular data centers that deliver high compute and storage capacity, as well as durable connectivity—are engineered to support multiple data processing and AI apps at the edge. Self-contained, customizable, and seamlessly interfaceable, Galleons are at the core of Armada Edge’s potential.

Finally, Armada EdgeAI transforms a plethora of genAI, multimodal AI, and real-time machine learning capabilities into adaptable applications. Accessible via the cloud, these apps are designed to accommodate a variety of industrial use cases, servicing a sector that has been “vastly underserved but…crucial in today’s landscape,” according to Justin Wilson, managing director at Koch Real Estate Investments.

In addition to this wide range of technologies, Armada is currently working toward various certifications—on top of its already achieved SOC2 and ISO 27001 compliance—and partnerships to expand their reach and affirm their legitimacy.

“Armada has a best-in-class team building at the edge of what’s technically possible right now,” said Trae Stephens, partner at Founders Fund and co-founder and chairman at Anduril. “Armada’s edge computing platform will fundamentally reshape entire industries.”
