CA Technologies Reaches Converged Infrastructure Milestone

CA Technologies announced that 25 of its software offerings are now certified by VCE to run on Vblock Systems, furthering CA's support of converged infrastructure platforms. VCE, formed by Cisco and EMC with investments from VMware and Intel, provides converged cloud infrastructure systems. The company's Vblock Systems are designed to accelerate the adoption of converged infrastructure and cloud-based computing models.

CA Technologies Vblock Ready offerings mean they are fully tested and integrated CA Technologies offerings with official certification from VCE, the vendor says. The 13 new certified offerings include several security products, as well as additional unified automation, service assurance and virtualization products, joining the list of 12 certified offerings announced earlier this year.

The offerings help advance CA's positioning of its data center products in the virtualization and private cloud space, Roger Pilc, general manager of Industries, Solutions and Alliances for CA Technologies, tells 5 Minute Briefing. “Our customers value the fact that we have deep support for VCE and other converged infrastructure platforms and that they can use our offerings to manage other platforms in the data center at the same time,” he says. “Converged infrastructure platforms are interesting to customers because they help them more efficiently deliver and manage applications and services, but they still need IT systems management – including security and application performance management – and they want to use the same solution to manage those converged platforms as other platforms they may have within their data centers.”

CA Technologies recently certified Vblock Ready offerings include CA Server Automation; CA Business Service Insight; CA Application Performance Management; CA Nimsoft Monitor; CA Virtual Assurance for Infrastructure Managers; CA IdentityMinder; CA ControlMinder for Virtual Environments; CA AuthMinder (formerly CA Arcot WebFort); CA SiteMinder; CA GovernanceMinder; CA ControlMinder;  CA ControlMinder Shared Account Management; and CA DataMinder.

The range of Vblock certifications also plays a role in CA's longstanding support for mainframes, especially as they become more integrated within heterogeneous environments, Pilc says. “The same process automation and service catalog capabilities we bring to distributed environments are being used by customers in the mainframe arena as well,” he says. “The effort with VCE is just one more example of our commitment to helping our customers manage and secure their complex heterogeneous IT environments across physical, virtual and cloud.”
