CA Updates Data Protection Software

CA Technologies is shipping an updated backup and recovery solution that supports mixed IT environments. CA arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) is an enhancement to the CA arcserve data protection software portfolio. The new release includes a unified architecture and recovery point server that is managed from a web-based user console.

“CA arcserve UDP allows businesses to reduce complexity and mitigate rising costs without sacrificing functionality,” said Mike Crest, general manager of data management for CA. “Simply put, it renders point solutions obsolete.”

CA arcserve UDP offers image and file-based backup, tape support, replication, and high availability, along with workflow-based protection plans that let users quickly “dial in” the right level of protections. The single solution supports Microsoft Windows, Linux and Unix systems.

At the heart of the unified CA arcserve UDP is the new resource saving recovery point server (RPS), combining global source-side de-duplication, integrated block-level replication, AES 256-bit level encryption, and cascading retention policies.

The new solution also includes extended virtual machine protection with agent-less protection for VMware and now Microsoft Hyper-V environments.
