Datameer has announced a new release of its big data analytics solution, which combines data integration, analytics and visualization of any data type in one application.
The new capabilities offered in Datameer 2.0 are in two main categories, Joe Nicholson, vice president of marketing, Datameer, tells DBTA. One is adding new functionality and the other is bringing Hadoop to the desktop with Hadoop natively embedded in two of three new editions of the application.
In terms of new versions of the software, Nicholson says, now, in addition to Datameer Enterprise, which scales to thousands of nodes and runs on any Hadoop distribution, Datameer is offering Datameer Personal, which runs on a single desktop, and Datameer Workgroup, which runs on a single server and is designed for small groups of people. Datameer Personal is for use by a single user for up to 100GB of data, and Workgroup is for use by up to 50 people and goes up to 1TB of data.
Additional major new features found in all three editions of Datameer 2.0 include the Business Infographics Designer, an enhanced user interface; support for more data sources, and extended OS and device support.
With the introduction of the Business Infographics Designer, Datameer says 2.0 gives expanded graphics and visualization design control. The vector-based WYSIWYG designer enables users to choose how they want to visualize their data, whether infographics or more traditional reports, maps, graphs and dashboards. Built on HTML5, Datameer 2.0 runs on a range of devices, letting users work with and visualize their data on smartphones, tablets, desktop and laptop computers. In addition, Datameer supports popular operating systems including Windows and Mac OS as well as Linux and VMware.
Datameer 2.0 also adds additional features, including the concept of a Finder which makes Datameer “look like a desktop application even though you might be analyzing petabytes of data,” and a feature called Data Lineage “which is very important in today’s regulatory climate,” in order to “see all of the data and where data came from and the transformations and analytics that are applied to that data,” says Nicholson.
Datameer 2.0 also supports more data sources. New sources in 2.0 include Twitter and Facebook, Netezza and COBOL as well as Teradata export. Datameer also offers improved HIVE integration, including the ability to export to HIVE as well as the previously supported HIVE data import.
