EnterpriseDB (EDB), a provider of sovereign data and AI solutions, is previewing horizontal scaling for EDB Postgres AI Distributed, helping enterprises expand database write capacity for growing transactional and AI workloads.
The capability distributes writes among multiple shard groups, allowing work to run in parallel while retaining existing replication, automatic failover, and durability controls, according to EDB.
The company said the enhancement addresses capacity constraints as businesses add customers, increase transaction volumes, and deploy AI agents. Target workloads include payment processing, core banking, and multi-tenant SaaS.
EDB’s approach builds on the platform’s existing architecture, enabling customers to increase capacity while maintaining familiar operational practices and deployment flexibility across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments.
Horizontal scaling is currently being previewed with customer design partners, with general availability planned for February 2027. The initial release is designed for transactions operating within a single shard group.
