EnterpriseDB, provider of enterprise-class PostgreSQL products and Oracle database compatibility solutions, has formed a partnership with Zmanda, a provider of open source and cloud backup solutions. Through the partnership, Zmanda has created and certified a NetBackup agent for EnterpriseDB’s flagship Postgres Plus Advanced Server.
EnterpriseDB focuses on large, enterprise-level customers that are looking to take advantage of Postgres functionality, observed Keith Alsheimer, Chief Marketing Officer, EnterpriseDB, in an interview with 5 Minute Briefing. Many of these large customers that are using EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus product, which includes Oracle compatibility, as well as security and performance enhancements and features, also use the Symantec NetBackup tools, he notes.
The backup agent for Postgres Plus Advanced Server seamlessly integrates EnterpriseDB’s Advanced Server database into Symantec’s NetBackup data backup and recovery solution, providing customers with a database backup experience that is consistent and easy to use with their existing systems. Zmanda also offers a NetBackup backup agent for open source PostgreSQL.
EnterpriseDB’s growth with large enterprise customers has been really significant, notes Alsheimer. “We grew 62% in the last year (2012). The number of Fortune 500 and global 1000 customers who are using Postgres Plus for more mission-critical applications has been increasing dramatically.” The need for the partnership is a result of that growth, he stated.
Separately, EnterpriseDB also announced that it has made significant progress with its xDB Replication Server v5.0 with Multi-Master Replication (MMR), which has topped over 20,000 downloads over the 7 months of availability. making it easier for large enterprises to maintain data integrity across multiple clusters set up in widespread geographic areas, expand management flexibility and boost database performance.
The xDB Replication Server is part of EnterpriseDB’s Postgres Plus family of PostgreSQL-based software products that the company has developed to provide enterprises with greater levels of availability, performance, security, performance and manageability.
