ExtraHop Introduces Free Virtual Appliance for Application Performance Management

ExtraHop Networks, a provider of network-based application performance management (APM) solutions, has introduced ExtraHop Discovery Edition, a new 60-day, free trial version of the ExtraHop Application Delivery Assurance system, and the EH2000v, a more powerful version of its EH1000v virtual appliance. The ExtraHop Discovery Edition is aimed at helping IT teams to easily explore the benefits of network-based APM, while the  EH2000v supports enterprises’ increasingly virtualized and distributed IT environments, providing up to a sustained 3Gbps throughput capacity and support for over 1,000 hosts or VMs.

Explaining ExtraHop’s intent with the free trial version, Erik Giesa, senior vice president, marketing at ExtraHop, tells 5 Minute Briefing.  “Part of our go-to-market strategy is to get a next-generation APM solution like ExtraHop into as many hands as possible.” According to Giesa, it can be deployed in 15 minutes or less to deploy and will begin to auto-discover everything on the network, including application traffic, and database and storage traffic, and provide cross-correlation of that traffic. With the ExtraHop Discovery Edition, IT operations teams can also Identify errors and performance degradations for each tier in the application delivery chain and check for indicators of virtual packet loss. Often, Giesa adds, organizations will have an acute issue and need help immediately, and this is one way to provide that help, since it is a fully functioning product that runs for 60 days. “We are confident that once people deploy it they will become customers.”

In addition, beyond the EH100v virtual appliance which enables up to 1Gbps of real-time analysis and up to 250 devices under management, the new to the EH2000v supports 300 to 1,000 devices per virtual appliance and up to 3Gbps of throughput capacity. “This just rounds up the virtual appliance line up and is meant to be very disruptive. You only pay for what you use and it is subscription-based.”

At the top end, there is also an ExtraHop physical appliance that goes up to 10Gbps of real-time analysis.  All together, the portfolio, allows for a mixed or hybrid deployment, using a physical  appliance in the in data centers and virtual in branch offices, and a free solution, ExtraHop Central Manager, that provides centralized management and reporting across multiple distributed ExtraHop Application Delivery Assurance systems, says Giesa.
