HP Delivers Storage Virtualization Capabilities; Tiered EDS Services

HP announced a series of new solutions and services intended to offer greater virtualization and systems management support to help companies better manage IT costs.

A new line of StorageWorks Storage-Area Network (SAN) Virtualization Solutions is designed to help customers simplify the provisioning, management and optimization of virtualized server and storage environments. The HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array 6400 and 8400 can cut storage administration costs by up to 50%, the vendor says, and offers customers greater flexibility of choice in terms of disk tier management.

Kyle Fitze, marketing director for HP StorageWorks Storage Platforms, tells 5 Minute Briefing that "the new EVA products include solid state disk drives that can be deployed alongside fibre channel and SATA drives to align the storage of different types of content with the best drive technology."

The new StorageWorks products also include two new software products-the enhanced HP SAN Virtualization Services Platform 2.1, which is a network-based storage virtualization solution that increases available storage capacity; and enhanced HP Data Protector software that provides one data protection solution for all physical and virtual environments.

To help prioritize technology investments, HP's EDS division is now offering clients the option of tiered levels of service, which lower the cost of running less-critical applications while maintaining the highest service levels for critical applications. This flexible approach to managing services helps maximize the business value of applications and can significantly reduce overall application maintenance costs.

In the area of adopting flexible sourcing, EDS now offers enhanced Managed Services that give clients more sourcing choices and control through a set of modular, standard packages. Also, HP offers flexible financing and leasing options through HP Financial Services.
