HP Targets Oracle Environments with New Solutions

At Oracle OpenWorld, HP announced new HP BladeSystem Matrix provisioning templates, as well as reference configurations for Oracle solutions on HP infrastructure, and a broadened storage portfolio for Oracle environments.

The HP BladeSystem Matrix is a converged infrastructure platform. "It has got software, servers, storage and networking all together. It automates service delivery and a lot of key functions for our customers," Doug Small, director of marketing for enterprise server networking at HP, explains to 5 Minute Briefing. "It provisions infrastructure in minutes that used to take days or months for example. It allows you to optimize your infrastructure confidently because it provides you the insight to quickly adjust it based on the real loads and what is really happening within your infrastructure and your network, and finally, it enables you to protect the continuity of services with failover for disaster recovery that is very quick."

With the new HP BladeSystem Matrix provisioning templates announced at OpenWorld, says Small,"We have new integration for Oracle environments so not only is the hardware infrastructure innovative, but we have also connected it with intelligence about Oracle applications to enable it to offer even more value."

Using the new BladeSystem Matrix Application Infrastructure Template kit, customers can orchestrate and automate provisioning of an Oracle PeopleSoft application with Oracle 11g in a three-tier architecture. Customers can also easily customize the templates for their specific requirements and ensure compliance with their data center policies.

According to HP, the BladeSystem Matrix solution in an Oracle environment enables customers to allocate resources to meet dynamic business needs using application infrastructure templates and a self-service portal to provision data center resources; transform data center economics by moving to a cost-effective, shared infrastructure that doubles administrator productivity by eliminating or automating routine manual tasks; and maximize technology investments by integrating HP and Oracle solutions for a flexible shared-services infrastructure with existing data center tools and processes.

HP also announced new reference configurations for Oracle. The new HP reference configurations for Oracle provide customers with best practices focused on three areas. One is ensuring high availability, with the HP reference architectures for a service-oriented architecture with Oracle Database 11g; another is scaling linearly as user population grows for online transaction processing using the Oracle Database 11g Scalability with Compression on HP ProLiant DL785 reference architecture; and a third focus is on maximizing the potential of the Oracle Grid architecture by demonstrating the value of automated online server reprovisioning in an environment with HP Scalable NAS and HP BladeSystem.

HP StorageWorks offers a range of storage virtualization solutions that enable Oracle customers to consolidate and modernize their infrastructures to reduce cost, while increasing performance and utilization.
