INNOVATION Data Processing and CA Announce Data Protection Partnership

INNOVATION Data Processing (IDP) announced a strategic partnership with CA Technologies in which CA will include IDP products within its own portfolio.

The alliance enables CA to offer IDP's "UPSTREAM for Linux on Z" and "UPSTREAM for UNIX on Z" as data protection solutions as part of CA's existing portfolio of systems management capabilities, Pat Fitzsimmons, product manager at IDP, tells 5 Minute Briefing. The IDP-CA alliance was announced at the recent SHARE user conference in Orlando.

The new relationship will help expand CA's business offerings by providing backup, restore and disaster recovery data protection features for businesses consolidating distributed Linux systems onto IBM System z and zEnterprise mainframe systems. The offerings are based on IDP's FDR/UPSTREAM Enterprise and Distributed Data Protection solution, and will be available in the fall.

"INNOVATION solutions are at banking, financial, government, health services and insurance customer sites providing data protection for millions of people's personal and financial information around the world," says Tom Meehan, vice president of advancing technology for IDP. "Teaming with CA further expands the availability of our high quality solutions to business customers everywhere."

The Data Protection features of UPSTREAM for Linux on Z will supplement the CA Linux on Z portfolio which offers a range of software designed to help customers manage and secure z/VM systems that support Linux on System z.
