Informatica Advances Cloud Data Integration With Support for Amazon Web Services

Informatica Corporation, a provider of data integration software, has announced the beta release of Informatica PowerCenter Cloud Edition, a cloud data integration infrastructure that combines the Informatica data integration platform (PowerCenter) with the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), which is a web service that provides resizable compute capacity in the cloud. Complementing this new product is the latest Informatica On Demand offering, PowerCenter Service, which enables IT and business users to remotely execute and manage data integration jobs on Amazon EC2, simply by using an Internet browser.

With growing adoption of cloud computing, enterprises often collect and manage data in disparate silos including on-premise data sources as well as in the cloud. To gain a competitive advantage from all this data, organizations require a solution that enables data integration of all data sources, whether on-premise or cloud-based. PowerCenter Cloud Edition is a comprehensive product that addresses these requirements, including connectivity to data sources both in the cloud and on-premise, with the ability to move and integrate data across the two.

Girish Pancha, executive vice president and general manager of data integration at Informatica, tells 5 Minute Briefing that "more data is moving off-premise as enterprises deploy business process outsourcing (BPO) and software-as-a-service (SaaS) operations and applications. As this volume of cloud-based data increases, data integration experts and business managers want a solution that can host certain data integration jobs closer to the cloud data they are using, as well as integrate and move data seamlessly between on-premise and cloud sources and targets. Informatica PowerCenter Cloud Edition is this solution and is the full-featured data integration platform enabled to run on the Amazon EC2 Web Service (AWS)."

Also, to leverage cloud computing as an extension to traditional on-premise computing infrastructure, many enterprises want robust remote administration capabilities to better enable migration of data as well as management of data. Informatica On-Demand PowerCenter Service offers a simple, yet powerful facility to address these requirements. Pancha also told 5 Minute Briefing that "we extended Informatica PowerCenter On-Demand to manage data integration jobs combining on-premise data with cloud data and this is now the On-Demand Service provided with the PowerCenter Cloud Edition."

The Informatica PowerCenter Cloud Edition on Amazon EC2 is offered with both pay-as-you-use hourly pricing and traditional perpetual license pricing. The PowerCenter Cloud Edition is available today on Amazon EC2 as a beta release, with production release planned for September 2009. The PowerCenter Service is available immediately as part of the Informatica On Demand Summer 2009 release.
