KIOXIA Introduces Direct Liquid Cooling Capability, Provides New Levels of Performance and Power Efficiency

KIOXIA America, Inc. is announcing the launch of KIOXIA CM10 Series of solid-state drives (SSDs), featuring the company's latest BiCS FLASH generation 10 TLC memory.

Designed for demanding enterprise and AI workloads, including AI inference and Key Value (KV) cache, the new drives are designed to support the NVIDIA CMX context memory storage solution while delivering significant gains in performance, power efficiency, and cooling flexibility over the previous generation, according to KIOXIA.

The KIOXIA CM10 Series is Kioxia's first PCIe 6.0 enterprise SSD and offers direct-cold-plate liquid cooling capability, enabling more efficient cooling deployments for next-generation AI infrastructure. Compared to the previous generation, the KIOXIA CM10 Series delivers up to approx. 92% higher sequential read performance and up to approx. 85% higher random read performance, helping to accelerate data-intensive AI inference and enterprise applications while improving overall system efficiency.

As AI models continue to scale toward trillions of parameters and agentic AI context windows expand to millions of tokens, the demand for high-performance KV (Key Value) cache storage is growing rapidly. The NVIDIA CMX solution extends effective GPU memory with a shared, pod-level context tier optimized for ephemeral KV cache, said the vendor.

By leveraging ultra-fast flash storage, CMX makes enterprise SSDs an increasingly important component of AI infrastructure. The KIOXIA CM10 Series is designed to meet these evolving requirements with the performance, capacity, and endurance needed for large-scale AI deployments, the company said.

"As AI infrastructure evolves, storage must deliver not only higher performance but also greater efficiency and deployment flexibility," said Neville Ichhaporia, senior vice president and general manager of the SSD business unit at KIOXIA America, Inc. "The KIOXIA CM10 Series reflects our continued commitment to advancing flash storage that helps customers build more capable, scalable, and efficient AI infrastructure."

The KIOXIA CM10 Series drives are currently sampling to select customers.

In addition to this, KIOXIA announced its UFS 5.0 embedded flash memory solutions, designed to deliver the performance, efficiency, and capacity required for the next generation of AI-enabled mobile and edge devices.

Built on the latest JEDEC UFS 5.0 standard, KIOXIA's new devices leverage the MIPI M-PHY v6.0 physical layer and UniPro v3.0 protocol, including HS-Gear6 operation, to support theoretical interface speeds of up to 46.6 Gb/s per lane and approximately 10.8 GB/s of effective dual-lane read/write performance.

As AI workloads continue moving onto devices, storage performance is becoming increasingly important. Large language models, multimodal AI, advanced imaging and real-time inference require significantly faster movement of data between storage and compute. KIOXIA UFS 5.0 helps to enable faster application loading, greater responsiveness, and unprecedented user experience across on-device AI applications when compared to UFS 4.1, said the company.

Kioxia continues to advance its UFS portfolio with flash memory innovations designed to meet the growing demand for higher capacity, greater performance, and improved efficiency in AI-enabled mobile and edge applications.
