Applications are expected to be always-on, lightning fast, and endlessly scalable—whether it's powering global ecommerce, enabling real-time analytics, or supporting AI-driven services.
The ability to integrate data across clouds and platforms, ensure it is secure and trusted for AI and analytics, and deliver it through APIs and microservices, is the backbone of success.
The challenge is that traditional approaches to data management simply can't keep up. New strategies and technologies are needed to meet the demands of today's modern applications.
DBTA recently held a roundtable webinar, “Powering Modern Applications: Data Management for Speed and Scale,” with experts who explored how forward-thinking companies are rethinking data management.
The explosion of data volumes, data sources, and legacy replication methods has created data chaos, said David Hrncir, lead partner sales engineer at Fivetran. The average medium to large size organization has more than 275 sources.
Fivetran’s approach to modernizing data management include moving all data from a users’ system, then transforming that data into enriched and governed data. Finally, users can activate the data into any of their applications or workflows, Hrncir said.
“Fivetran helps companies achieve meaningful, data driven results,” Hrncir said.
Successful modernizations focus on data, explained Marielle Verschoor, community of practice leader at Informatica. In the pre-migration phase, accurately plan for time and budget, she said. Analyze data quality, understand duplicates and missing data. And Understand objects, their structures and dependencies.
In the execution phase, avoid operational disruption. Compare objects and lineage in the legacy and the new system. Analyze lineage to find missing data elements. And make sure there is application agnostic data mastering and synchronization, Verschoor noted.
Informatica offers an application modernization process that consists of:
- Improve data quality for better process outcomes
- Out of the box MDM accelerators to speed up modernization
- Data governance for regulatory compliance and traceability
- Predefined AI driven Application Integration for efficiency
“AI-powered innovation is showing the industry’s TDM Gaps,” said Nick Mathison, Senior Product Manager at Delphix by Perforce.
A central data platform needs to automate compliant data for DevOps, TDM, and AI/analytics. Delphix by Perforce provides improved and flexible data delivery, Mathison concluded.
