MySQL 5.5 Enterprise Edition Update is Now Available

Oracle has announced that an update to MySQL 5.5 Enterprise Edition is now available. New in this release is the addition of MySQL Enterprise Backup and MySQL Workbench along with enhancements in MySQL Enterprise Monitor. In addition, recent integration with MyOracle Support allows MySQL customers to access the same support infrastructure used for Oracle Database customers to enable joint MySQL and Oracle customers to experience faster problem resolution by using a common technical support interface.

In addition to the integration with MyOracle support, MySQL Enterprise Edition features MySQL Enterprise Monitor 2.3 which introduces new rules and graphs that help users further optimize the performance and availability of MySQL Database and MySQL Cluster. The release also includes new MySQL, InnoDB and operating system-specific graphs that improve visual monitoring of key systems for real-time and historical trending purposes.

In addition the new release includes MySQL Enterprise Backup 3.5, which enables organizations to perform hot online backup of MySQL Databases; and improves data integrity and uptime by supporting full, incremental and partial backups, as well as Point-in-Time recovery and backup compression.

And, in another enhancement, there is MySQL Workbench 5.2, which provides data modeling, SQL development and comprehensive administration tools, enabling users to visually design, model, generate and manage MySQL Databases.

"With the enhancements to MySQL Enterprise Monitor and MySQL Enterprise Backup, along with streamlined, global support, DBAs and developers can speed their MySQL deployments while reducing total cost of ownership," states Tomas Ulin, vice president, Engineering, Oracle.   "The latest enhancements in MySQL Enterprise Edition underscore Oracle's commitment to helping customers be successful with the world's most popular open source database."
