New Relic Streamlines Engineering Experience with Latest Error Tracking Improvements

New Relic, the provider of an all-in-one observability platform for engineers, is unveiling a new error tracking function to alleviate the pressures of engineering teams targeting errors within their software stacks. Capabilities such as a new user impact view, access to correlation data across traces and logs, as well as an enhanced integration with Slack allow engineers to detect, triage, and act upon software errors before it reaches customers.

“As applications grow more complex, engineers need a system in place to proactively triage and fix errors before the customer experience is impacted,” said Manav Khurana, observability product GM and chief growth officer at New Relic. “New Relic error tracking gives web, mobile, and back-end engineers a single place to prioritize and resolve issues faster whenever a critical, customer-impacting error arises. Because error tracking is part of our all-in-one observability platform, we are able to automatically display relevant traces and logs in context of an error, helping engineers debug errors faster."

Not only are errors discovered faster, even the smallest errors are detected; this contrasts against legacy error tracking solutions that often let smaller errors through to the customer. New Relic provides this capability through a single pane of glass, allowing users to view, triage, and resolve errors from a unified platform, ultimately making the engineer experience easier and simpler. The solution provides engineers with error detection across the full application stack, including APM, RUM, mobile, and serverless data, according to the vendor.

The user impact view provides a sortable visualization of errors grouped by unique user impact, integrating context with the quantity of errors for engineers to determine which errors are critical. New Relic’s correlation across traces and logs, including functions like stack traces, distributed tracing, and a single view of logs, reduces context switching for engineers bogged down by a multitude of different screens. The enhanced Slack integration further reduces context switching, allowing engineers to efficiently identify and resolve errors or regressions faster as errors are sent directly to teams that need it within Slack.

Ashley Zagorski, software engineer at Beyond Finance, explained how New Relic improves their engineering experience: "At Beyond Finance, our mission is simple: we want to help individuals move beyond debt. A critical part of ensuring that happens is being able to monitor the health of our applications. We use error tracking to detect, triage, and resolve full-stack errors—all in one place. With error tracking as the source of truth, my engineering team can better collaborate to understand, troubleshoot, and ultimately resolve errors faster, creating better customer experiences and freeing up more time for innovation."
