Opaque Gateway Infuses Security at the Core of GenAI with Confidential Computing

Opaque Systems, a leader in confidential data for trusted AI to help enterprises move AI into production, is unveiling the early access version of Opaque Gateway, an agile software solution designed to enable enterprises to experience the benefits of AI without sacrificing data privacy, security, or sovereignty. Not only does this radically alter the space of security for AI but also forwards flexible generative AI (GenAI) deployments and robust cost management for its implementation, according to the company.

Getting AI projects from pilot to production—and demonstrating tangible value for customers and stakeholders—remains a pressing challenge for enterprises in a variety of industries. This is due, in part, to the massive concerns surrounding data protection when it's used by a large language model (LLM).

Propelled by the data security and sovereignty difficulties surfaced by GenAI and LLM implementation, the Opaque Gateway aims to break down these barriers with provable data privacy. Opaque’s solution is backed by the company’s extensive research and development in computer science, rivaling other newcomer companies’ emergence in this space.

With Opaque Gateway, data remains encrypted in use, not just in storage and transit—ensuring that confidentiality is at the forefront at every step of its journey. Opaque Gateway further generates a complete audit log, verifying data privacy, security, and sovereignty with tangible proof. With various advanced techniques—including configurable privacy controls, monitoring, reporting, analysis, customer logic pre- and post-LLM processing, and prompt compression—organizations can launch AI projects with both confidence and trust.

Opaque Gateway “allows people to have confidential data pipelines that are processed with AI… [and it’s] a really groundbreaking, disruptive technology that's going to become the standard for how people do their AI implementations,” said Aaron Fulkerson, CEO of Opaque Systems. “The only way to manage… [AI data security] is…to have some kind of confidential data pipeline solution—like the one provided by Opaque—that keeps the data encrypted end-to-end, allowing you to reprocess encrypted data in that confidential data pipeline with AI.”

This is accomplished without sacrificing speed, efficiency, or flexibility. Opaque Gateway’s design allows AI projects to thrive with zero switching costs, peak performance, and agile deployment.

As the quality and cost of models rapidly changes, Opaque Gateway ensures that its users can hotswap models without upending what they’ve already implemented. Additionally, Opaque Gateway offers flexibility in data sources, enabling enterprises to create custom business logic for processing data flows without rearchitecting their data sources.

Users of Opaque Gateway report up to a 5x faster time-to-first-value and a 27% decrease in costs. The solution’s accelerated path to realizing AI value, with security at its core, will be a key differentiator among enterprises implementing AI projects, according to Opaque.

“With enterprises rushing to adopt GenAI, the launch of Opaque Gateway by Opaque Systems marks a pivotal moment for businesses seeking to harness the power of Generative AI without sacrificing the sanctity of data privacy or security,” said Mark Hinkle, founder of the Artificially Intelligent Enterprise. “This innovative platform not only promises a smoother transition from pilot projects to full-scale production but also embodies a commitment to maintaining agility and compliance in the face of stringent regulatory requirements. By offering a solution that integrates confidential computing at its core, Opaque Gateway ensures that enterprises no longer have to choose between advancing their AI capabilities and upholding their duty to protect sensitive information.”

Opaque Gateway is now available in early access for select companies, with plans for an open source release in the near future.
