Oracle Announces Intent to Buy Cloud Management Software Provider Nimbula


Oracle has agreed to acquire Nimbula, a provider of cloud infrastructure management software, headquartered in Mountain View, California. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2013.

Nimbula’s flagship product, Nimbula Director, is an infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) software for building self-service public, private, and hybrid clouds According to the company, Nimbula Director is differentiated from other products by its high level of automation and scale, reliability and ease of use, and its ability to separate customers from the operational and hardware complexity associated with deploying a private, hybrid or public cloud. The company was founded by the team that developed the Amazon EC2.

In October 2012, announced it had joined the OpenStack community, and its plans to collaborate on a range of improvements to the OpenStack codebase as well as to incorporate OpenStack services in future Nimbula Director releases. Nimbula customers include Russian Internet company, Yandex, and U.S. government service provider, Solers.
