Oracle Expands in Austin, Texas with StackEngine Acquisition and New Tech Campus

Oracle has acquired StackEngine. The acquisition was quietly announced in a three-sentence statement on the StackEngine website: “On December 18, 2015 Oracle signed and closed an agreement to acquire StackEngine. All StackEngine employees will be joining Oracle as part of Oracle Public Cloud. For more information please contact stackengine_ww@oracle.com.”

Oracle also announced Tuesday that it has signed an agreement to acquire AddThis, a provider of publisher personalization, audience insight and activation tools that enables audience segment quality, scale and insight.

Based in Austin, Texas, StackEngine’s mission is described on its website as helping enterprises “on their Virtualization to Containerization (V-to-C) journey by bringing modern, enterprise-grade management to container-centric architectures.” The company offers software to manage and automate Docker applications. Container Application Center, StackEngine’s flagship product, is a container application management solution for developers, DevOps and IT operations teams spanning the container application lifecycle, from development to deployment.

Following the announcement of the StackEngine acquisition, on December 22, 2015, Oracle announced plans to construct a next-generation technology campus in Austin, Texas. Oracle stated that, bolstered by the new campus, it would expand its team in Austin by more than 50% over the next few years.

Part of Oracle’s global hiring initiative to drive Oracle cloud expansion and attract millennial talent, Oracle said job opportunities would largely be driven by growth in Oracle’s cloud sales organization, Oracle Direct. Recruitment efforts will focus on recent university graduates and technical professionals at early stages in their career, according to Oracle.

“Austin was a natural choice for Oracle to invest and grow,” said Scott Armour, senior vice president, Oracle Direct. “We already have a high-performing employee base in the region, and the surrounding technology community is teeming with creative and innovative thinkers. Our state-of-the-art campus will be designed to inspire, support and attract top talent – with a special focus on the needs of millennials.”
