Oracle Management Software Supplier Adds Data Masking to Boost Security as a Service

patchVantage has announced the addition of data masking functionality to its suite of Oracle Database and ERP management tools, which includes backup, cloning, patching, penetration testing, and password management. Data masking—a key technology for companies that need to comply with GDPR and other data privacy regulations—allows sensitive data to be hidden or obscured to protect against insider threats. It makes information available only to authorized users, minimizing risk, yet still allowing development and testing by third parties.

According to patchVantage, organizations are increasingly outsourcing security management to security service providers (SSPs) because the complexity, cost, and time required for security management make it prohibitive for the small- to mid-size companies in particular to do this themselves. In addition, emerging data protection standards such as GDPR place further burdens on these organizations so the demand for alternative, cost-effective approaches and tools has increased.

patchVantage aims to simplify the process of backing up, cloning, and patching multiple databases; the software is quick and simple to install and generates full log files, significantly reducing management overhead.

With the addition of data masking patchVantage is well suited for SSPs who manage multiple clients’ security and compliance needs, as well as organizations to use in-house, said technical architect David McNish. With this enhancement the company is offering all new users a trial of the full patchVantage software suite free for one month.

patchVantage, based in Scotland, was formed in 2014 by McNish, an Oracle Systems expert and veteran of the communications industry. The company is a member of both the U.K. Oracle Users Group and the Independent OUG in the U.S.

According to patchVantage, its solution offers a compelling combination of both rapid (SNAP) cloning and data masking. In addition, users can apply pre-defined static masks or define their own to deliver automated data masking. As masks are applied when the clone is created, sensitive data is immediately hidden.
