Percona, which provides MySQLand MongoDB solutions and services, has announced Percona XtraBackup 2.4, the latest release of the company’s open source hot backup solution that works with MySQL-compatible offerings, including Percona Server, MySQL, and MariaDB. According to the vendor, version 2.4 of the free solution offers improvements, including greater speed and reliability, and uninterrupted transaction processing during backups.
“As more and more companies rely on larger MySQL deployments for mission-critical applications, maintaining 100% uptime becomes an imperative, not just a goal,” Vadim Tkachenko, co-founder and CTO of Percona. According to Tkachenko, with its performance and reliability enhancements, the new release enables organizations to maintain a robust backup strategy without the negative issues associated with maintenance downtime.
In a related announcement, the company also unveiled Percona Server for MySQL 5.7. The new release provides optimized performance, greater scalability and availability, enhanced backups, increased visibility, and a write-optimized storage engine, TokuDB, for greater data compression and cost-efficient operation in the cloud.
