Red Gate Introduces Tool for Finding Memory Problems in .NET Applications

Red Gate Software has released ANTS Memory Profiler 7, a new tool that makes finding and fixing memory problems simpler in .NET applications.

"Without paying proper attention to memory usage, developers will find their applications use more resources than necessary, significantly degrading performance for the end user or even causing application crashes. This leads to sloppy-feeling applications which aren't as enjoyable to use, or users being forced to buy expensive additional hardware to run wasteful code," Mel Harbour, project manager for .NET Developer Tools at Red Gate Software, tells 5 Minute Briefing. According to Harbour, ANTS Memory Profiler 7 enables visualization of memory problems, and provides powerful filtering and analysis techniques which make enhance understanding of the issues faced.

According to the vendor, three improvements in ANTS Memory Profiler 7 make it easier to uncover memory problems in .NET applications. There is a new summary screen that jumps directly to causes of common problems. In addition, an Instance Categorizer provides a greater understanding of why groups of objects are held in memory, making it faster to find leaks. And finally, an API automates precise timing of snapshots within the developer's code.
