Revelation Software's OpenInsight 9.3 Nears Release

The release of OpenInsight 9.3, the next version of Revelation Software's flagship product, is now imminent, and includes many new features eagerly awaited by Revelation customers.

On track to be generally available by the end of the year, Robert Catalano, director of sales at Revelation,  says that data encryption is among the major new components in OpenInsight 9.3. "Data encryption will be a key component that will be built into the database. It is data encryption at rest and that means that you can specify tables and fields that are sitting in on your disk drive and that data will be encrypted."

A second important component is the availability of a set of O4W mobile APIs which will provide the ability to design mobile applications using the jQuery mobile library. "This provides the ability to deploy browser-based applications on devices such as the Android, iPhone and BlackBerry or any of the tablets," says Catalano.

In addition, he says, "We are including a new Banded Report Writer which can produce reports against OpenInsight data or any other data that we bind to such as D3, UniVerse, UniData, and SQL." And, he notes, in addition to offering the OI for D3 connector, with the release of  OpenInsight 9.3, "we are able to also connect to another offering from TigerLogic, the mvBase database as well."

Yet another key addition to OpenInsight is a new connector to OpenQM from Ladybridge. If it is not ready to be included by the 9.3 release, it will be available shortly after, says Catalano.
